Review (English) :

Mainland China in the early 20th century is a place that is always turbulent.

Different dynasties each role with a definite purpose, expand their territory.

What is so obvious victims are ordinary people who do not know anything.

Although they are not directly involved in the war but the impact

of the devastation of war they could not help but feel as well.

At the moment full of violence Hao Jie (Andy Lau) finds glory.

As a general, Hao Jie known never forgive. Many cities have become victims.

Nothing can beat Hao Jie and his army is strong.

Victory after victory finally makes Hao Jie arrogant.

He felt nothing could defeat him.

When the little people become victims of the fierce battle,

the Shaolin temple is the only place to shelter.

The immigrants who sought refuge and then learning martial arts at once studied Buddhism there.

Hearing that the Shaolin temple is to protect the little people, Hao Jie was then come to this temple and challenged

teachers to compete Shaolin magic.
Hao Jie managed to beat the great teachers of Shaolin and this makes it even more arrogant,

until finally Hao Jie feel the bitterness of defeat due to being betrayed. In a helpless situation,

there's no place other than take refuge in the Shaolin temple, where once he saw as the enemy.

Daratan China di awal abad ke-20 adalah tempat yang selalu bergolak.

Dinasti yang berbeda saling berperan dengan satu tujuan pasti, memperluas wilayah mereka.

Yang jadi korban jelas adalah rakyat jelata yang tak tahu apa-apa.

Meski mereka tak terlibat perang secara langsung namun dampak kehancuran akibat

peperangan mau tak mau mereka rasakan juga.

Di saat yang penuh dengan kekerasan ini Hao Jie (Andy Lau) menemukan kejayaannya.

Sebagai seorang jenderal, Hao Jie dikenal tak pernah memberi ampun.

Banyak sudah kota yang jadi korbannya. Tak ada yang bisa mengalahkan Hao Jie

dan tentaranya yang kuat. Kemenangan demi kemenangan akhirnya membuat Hao Jie sombong.

Ia merasa tak ada yang bisa mengalahkannya.

Ketika rakyat kecil menjadi korban ganasnya peperangan, kuil Shaolin adalah tempat satu-satunya untuk berlindung.

Para pendatang yang mencari perlindungan kemudian belajar beladiri sekaligus mendalami

agama Budha di sana. Mendengar bahwa kuil Shaolin ini melindungi rakyat kecil,

Hao Jie pun lantas mendatangi kuil ini dan menantang guru Shaolin untuk beradu kesaktian.

Hao Jie berhasil mengalahkan guru besar Shaolin dan ini membuatnya semakin sombong,

sampai akhirnya Hao Jie merasakan pahitnya kekalahan akibat dikhianati.

Dalam keadaan tak berdaya, tak ada tempat lain selain berlindung di kuil Shaolin,

tempat yang dulu ia anggap sebagai musuh.
